Holy Week Devotion - Tuesday

If you havent done so yet, please read the Introduction before proceed further by clicking the button below.
Bible. Coffee. Journal. Quiet.
If you are like me, you might wanna find that space in your house that fills your heart with gratitude, beauty, and silence.
Like yesterday, make sure you are in a position to really engage your whole body. Jesus is redeeming your bodies. Think about that.
Good posture. In a position that keeps you in the moment and in tune with what God might be doing.

(Set a timer for 3-5 minutes)
Breath Prayer: Jesus, when he was in Jerusalem days before He would die on the Cross, submitted himself to the Father when He says,

“Father, Glorify your Name.”

Control your breathing. Slow. Be aware of the tension you are feeling.

Breathe in: “Father.”
Breathe out: “Glorify your Name.”
(Repeat this for the next 3 or so minutes)

As you do this, cast all thoughts away but the Lord. Maybe have a journal to write down your random thoughts as a way to put them a way for later. This present moment is for Jesus. Quiet your soul.
Make notes of the ways your heart is responding as you welcome him to speak through his Word.

(5 Minutes)
Scripture Reading: John 12:20-36 (Jesus Predicts His Death)
“Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.”
“Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.”
“If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.”

Make observations. Highlight important phrases. Let the Word wash over.

As you sit in silence and prayerful reflection, consider these questions:
  • How do you need to die today so that you can take up the way of Jesus?
  • How does Jesus’ foreknowledge of his death impact your view of the Cross?

Prayer
Lord Jesus, help us to understand the depth of Your sacrifice. You willingly embraced death so that we might have life. Grant us the courage to die to ourselves daily, take up our cross and follow you. Amen.
